Match days around BMO Field get chaotic fast. The bars that are "fine on a normal night" turn into hour-long queues by kickoff. Here's where locals actually go — ranked by distance from the stadium and honest about what to expect.

Book ahead. Every spot on this list will have lineups on match days during the World Cup. For sit-down options, call ahead or book online at least a week before your game date.

Amsterdam BrewHouse

Craft Beer / Patio Bar · 245 Queens Quay W

The best pregame spot in the city for a match day. Massive waterfront patio, 40+ taps, and a view of Lake Ontario. Gets absolutely packed on event days — arrive at least 90 minutes before kickoff to get a spot outside. The patio faces west, so summer evenings look incredible.

Order: Any house-brewed lager + the pretzel with beer cheese

Tip: Book a table through their website for match days. Walk-ins will be turned away.

Brazen Head Irish Pub

Irish Pub · 165 East Liberty St

The closest proper pub to BMO Field. Classic Irish atmosphere, multiple screens, and a crowd that actually knows football. This will be ground zero for European fans on match days — expect singing, chanting, and a proper atmosphere.

Order: Guinness (obviously) + fish and chips

Tip: Cash moves faster at the bar on busy nights. They don't take reservations — just show up early.

The Dog's Bollocks

British Pub · 216 Bathurst St

A proper British pub that shows every major football match. Small, loud, and packed with actual soccer fans rather than casual observers. The kind of place where the crowd goes genuinely mental when a goal goes in.

Order: Bitter pint + a meat pie if they have them

Tip: One of the few spots in Toronto with a real football pub atmosphere. Worth the extra walk.

Cabana Pool Bar

Outdoor Bar / Club · Exhibition Place, Lake Shore Blvd W

Right at Exhibition Place, which makes it one of the most convenient post-match options. Outdoor setup, DJ, and a younger crowd. Not a traditional sports bar — but if you want to party after a good result, this is the move.

Order: Cocktail buckets, frozen drinks

Tip: Only open in summer (which lines up perfectly with the tournament). Check their event schedule — they may host official watch parties.

Mill Street Brew Pub

Brewery / Pub · 21 Tank House Ln, Distillery District

Set inside the historic Distillery District. Good for groups who want a more relaxed pre-match meal before heading to the stadium. Mill Street is one of Toronto's most respected craft breweries — the beer is genuinely excellent.

Order: Tankhouse Ale + the fish tacos

Tip: Better suited for a pre-match meal than a quick drink. Great option if you're in the area earlier in the day.

Real Sports Bar & Grill

📍 25 min walk / 10 min TTC

Sports Bar · 15 York St (near Air Canada Centre)

One of North America's largest sports bars. 199 screens, massive capacity, and they broadcast every major match. If you don't have a ticket to the game, this is probably the best place in the city to watch it.

Order: Wings + a pitcher

Tip: Downtown location means it's farther from BMO Field but easier to get to via TTC. Good fallback if Liberty Village spots are full.

Getting to and from the bars

Most of these spots are in Liberty Village or along the waterfront — all walkable from BMO Field. After the match, avoid Uber surge pricing by walking a few blocks east before requesting a ride, or just take the 509/511 streetcar back to Union Station.
